Room 15 Weekly News

December 9 – 13, 2019

Dear Room 15 Families,

Winter break is fast approaching, and these kids definitely know it. We can hardly stand the excitement!! We have been learning about different holidays, and how they are celebrated around the world. We’ve also been having lots of fun with winter- related activities in Language Arts, Science, and Math. I’d like to thank you for continuing to send your child to bed early, and feeding them a nutritious breakfast. Parents, I also have to add that you pack delicious, healthy – looking lunches. I’m always amazed when I watch the scholars open up their lunch boxes. Bravo!

A few quick reminders about our holiday party/ potluck/ performance:  Every Kinder/ TK class will be having their own holiday parties in their classrooms this year. The party will start at 11:45 am, right after the second Holiday Show performance at 10:30. Please consider the size of Room 15, and do your best to limit guests of the party to 2-3 adults per student. We want everyone to have a good time without being cramped. If you know your child is not going to be in school on Friday, December 20th, please let me know ahead of time so I could send everything home with them on Thursday. Any questions about the holiday party/ potluck could be directed to our wonderful Room Parent, Michele Shapiro, who is coordinating the party.

There are 2 performances for the Calabash Holiday Show on Friday, December 20th (8:30am and 10:30am). However, your child will need to come dressed in their performance outfit for both Thursday (the 19th) and Friday, as they are performing both days. Parents of grades 3,4, and 5 will be watching the show on Thursday, and parents of grades TK-2 will be watching on Friday. All grades will be performing on both days. Please write me on Dojo if you have any questions about this. The performance outfits will be a bright, solid color t-shirt (hot pink, red, orange, or green), and black pants.

Our social emotional skill this week will be all about gratefulness. What are some things or people you are grateful to have in your life? Have you told them lately how grateful you are for them?

Thank you once again for being wonderful, Ms. Baker. J

Homework

Make sure to read together every night, as well as to study your Rainbow Word lists on a daily basis (all lists, even ones they have passed!) Ms. Baker will be testing everyone on Wednesday. To my friends who are on their purple words: There will be one more list (pink words), and then Ms. Baker will start testing on the spelling of words from all the lists.

Monday night – Reading comprehension “Rocket” worksheet. Read the story and the questions with your child, and have them circle the answers they believe are correct. **Extra challenge (optional): Have your child circle any words they were able to read independently. Also, have your child write one fact from the story on the back of the paper.

Tuesday night – Math Lesson 7 Homework (front and back)

Wednesday night – Super Sight Word “With” page

Thursday night – Math Lesson 8 Homework

On the back of the paper, have your child write “_____ is lighter than the ____.” and draw a picture. **Extra challenge (optional): Write an additional sentence “______ is heavier than the ______.”

Room 15 Weekly News

December 2 – 6, 2019

Dear Room 15 Families,

Welcome to December and welcome back to school! I hope your holiday week was wonderful and restful, mine certainly was. We only have three more weeks until our winter break begins, and it is going to go fast.

It was great meeting with each and every one of you for conference week. I hope to see all of you again for the Calabash Winter Music Show on Friday, December 20th. There will be one performance at 8:30 am, and another at 10:45 am. The performances are identical, so feel free to pick the performance that works best for your schedule. The theme for our music show this year is Around the World in Celebration and Song, and you will be so proud of how hard these kids have been working. Next week, I’ll send home some more information on the performance outfit, or what your child should be wearing on that Friday for the show.

Right after the 10:45 performance on that Friday, we will be having our end of the year classroom party. The party will start approximately around 11:45, and end at 12:33, our minimum day dismissal time. More details of our classroom party to come!

The social emotional skill we will be revisiting this week is respect. The foundation, or starting point of all great friendships is respect. When you are in someone’s personal space, how are you not being respectful? When you see a book on the floor in the classroom, what is the respectful thing to do? Please give your child opportunities to discuss respect at home, and I will do the same at school.

Have a great week, and please try not to stress out over the holidays. Love, Ms. Baker J
